Gateway to the South Island: Picton serves as the primary ferry terminal connecting New Zealand’s North Island (Wellington) with the South Island (Picton) via the Cook Strait.

Scenic Beauty: The area around Picton is renowned for its natural beauty, with stunning coastal landscapes, lush forests, and crystal-clear waters.

Marlborough Sounds: Picton is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds, a network of waterways famous for its sailing, kayaking, and wildlife.
Walking and Hiking: The Queen Charlotte Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, starts (or ends) in Picton. It offers spectacular walking and hiking opportunities with panoramic views of the sounds (Michelle R., here’s your sign).
Wine Region: Marlborough, the region surrounding Picton, is famous for its wine production, particularly Sauvignon Blanc. Many vineyards and wineries are located nearby, offering tastings and tours. We opted for the Hop On Hop Off Wine Bus.

The final stop was Vines Village. A group of shops.

A busy day. And we were on the last shuttle back to the ship. The seas are getting a bit rough as the ship heads south.
