Wine Country

Gateway to the South Island: Picton serves as the primary ferry terminal connecting New Zealand’s North Island (Wellington) with the South Island (Picton) via the Cook Strait.

Scenic Beauty: The area around Picton is renowned for its natural beauty, with stunning coastal landscapes, lush forests, and crystal-clear waters.

Beautiful Vistas

Marlborough Sounds: Picton is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds, a network of waterways famous for its sailing, kayaking, and wildlife.

Walking and Hiking: The Queen Charlotte Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, starts (or ends) in Picton. It offers spectacular walking and hiking opportunities with panoramic views of the sounds (Michelle R., here’s your sign).

Wine Region: Marlborough, the region surrounding Picton, is famous for its wine production, particularly Sauvignon Blanc. Many vineyards and wineries are located nearby, offering tastings and tours. We opted for the Hop On Hop Off Wine Bus.

Our first stop—Fidelio Wine and Coffee Bar
The area in which we traveled
Wither Hills-Tasting #2-we bought the sparkling gewurztraminer.
Tasting Room #3
A different approach to wine tasting.
We received a card—similar to the cards for the fitness center at WL.
The process was to insert the card in the slot top middle. Press the touch screen above the wine for the designated wine and portion and pay that price. New to me.

The final stop was Vines Village. A group of shops.

Something for everyone. I did a flight of Whitehaven and had an ice cream cone. Joe drank scotch.

A busy day. And we were on the last shuttle back to the ship. The seas are getting a bit rough as the ship heads south.
