Days 9 to 11 at Sea

The usual “at sea” routine. Maybe an early lecture or round table, a bridge lesson at 11(working on responses to 2 club opening), trivia at 12:30, lunch and then a bridge game from 2-4 pm. Saturday evening’s performance in the Cabaret Lounge was by a wonderful young guitarist named Emilio.

At 11:36 AM Sunday the equator was crossed. King Neptune came and the pollywogs including Joe and me became shellbacks.

King Neptune
The junior officer polywogs.
The Captain of the ship had angered King Neptune and had to kiss the fish and be schmeered.

Monday’s bridge lesson was 2 club openings (Gail will be glad that I now know what 2 diamonds waiting means). My partner Linda and I won the sanctioned games twice. So I have earned .94 master points if I decide to rejoin ACBL.

Dinner last night was in Aquafina, the ship’s specialty Italian restaurant. Unfortunately my dish came with a visit from the Executive Chef. But the hazelnut soufflé for dessert made up for the main dish oops.

The late show entertainment was the Cruise Director, Eric deGray. Eric is a seasoned entertainer. His resume includes an undergraduate degree in bassoon musical performance, figure skating, ice shows and musical theatre. This was his final show until Segment 6 as he is disembarking in Lima for vacation. But what a performance! His rendition of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” is like no other as he performs on roller skates on a small dance floor. But I think he could use a new costume. Is Stefan reading?

Tuesday’s excursion is a Ceviche Cooking class. Stay tuned…

  1. Can’t wait for you to make us some ceviche and I bet the Dancing Queen performance was awesome. You’re probably still singing it!

    1. I will be glad to share the recipe. We can make it together on a golf trip to the coast where we can buy FRESH fish.
