Puerto Montt, Chile

Puerto Montt is the gateway to Chile’s beautiful Lake District and Patagonia. Surrounded by volcanoes, forests, and the Pacific coastline, this lively port city offers scenic view and rich local culture.

I opted for a ship’s excursion. Joe excused himself—he was not feeling well. So off I went to two small towns in Patagonia.

Puerto Vargas has a rich German heritage

Germans settled in this area in the mid 19th century. And brought their architecture, food and bier!

The German Club in Puerto Vargas
Lots of shops catering to the hiking aficionados
Frutillar (strawberry in Chile)

Another small town settled by Germans in the mid 19th century. Even more German architecture.

A beautiful Performing Arts Center on the shore of the lake.
Too bad it wasn’t due to open until after the bus was scheduled to leave.
“The Clock” restaurant. Which also didn’t open until 20 minutes before the bus departure.
I finally found a local beer at a hotel.
Very German-like architecture on the hill above the lake.
Dinner was with a group of cruisers and officers from the World Voyage 2024. It has become an amazing fraternity of folks.

A very busy day! Sea Day tomorrow. Packing is on the agenda.
