Punta Arenas is a city near the southernmost tip of Chile’s Patagonia region. Located on the Strait of Magellan, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, it’s often used as a base for excursions to Antarctica and the surrounding wilderness.

I opted for a three-hour tour of the town. Our tour guide was a lovely young lady who is primarily a nurse and does tours as a side job.

Punta Arenas was a bustling city until the opening of the Panama Canal. Now it relies on tourism and the petroleum industry. It is one of the three windiest cities on earth.

Punta Arenas was settled by several European groups in the nineteenth century. Forty percent of the population are Croatian.

We walked back to the ship after the tour, stopping for a coffee. I was hoping for a local beer, but since it was Sunday, that was difficult to find.

I planned to read a book, but a my body said “Nap!” I awoke in time to go to the Loyalty Event for Top Cruisers and then to dinner in Discoveries. Following dinner my book and I headed to the library for quiet reading. The library will be repurposed during the November dry dock. So I will use it while I can.
Cruising the Chilean Fjords the next two days…
