The day began with an announcement about 7:40 AM from the bridge. The ship was “surrounded” by whales. I put on clothes and headed for deck 10. Sure enough innumerable whales feeding. Lots of blows and tails flipping. One of the lecturers on board estimated 400-500 whales in the area. Wow! She said this was the most she had seen in her many travels below 60 degrees latitude.
The captain hung around the whales for over an hour. What fun watching them feed. Joe and I had a late breakfast in the dining room. I prefer my food cooked to order. I’m beyond the buffet.
The next highlight was Deception Island. Home to a large volcanic cordero and thousands of chinstrap penguins.

Last stop before reentering the Drake Passage is Snow Island. And Captain did a drive-by.
Next up the Azamara Circle Loyalty Gathering. The gathering honors three couples on board with the most nights on Azamara. The most was 395 or so. Two of the couples were on the 2024 World Cruise with Joe and me. I have no idea how many nights we have. And I don’t think there is a way to check it on the website.
Dinner in Discoveries and then a lecture from one of the enrichment speakers before bed. Sea Day tomorrow. Ushuaia on Friday.
