Sailing the Antarctic Peninsula-Day One

The dotted red line is the anticipated route for the three days of sailing.
The first iceberg!

The seas became noticeably calmer as the ship turned into Bransfield Strait by King George Island. King George Island is home to no less than ten research stations established by ten countries. The ship’s captain has asked us to conserve water as discharges from the ship are not permitted below 60 degrees south latitude. And at a ten knot maximum speed I think it might be difficult for the ship to make water.

Joe and I spent the afternoon in the Living Room, Deck 10 forward enjoying the scenery and hot chocolate. We left at 4:30.

Time for a reunion. There are sixteen folks on this cruise and several officers who were together on the 2024 World Cruise. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the folks again. Interestingly there were five or so Joe and I had not encountered in the ten or so days on the ship. Maybe it’s not that small after all.

Dinner in Discoveries Restaurant. Dessert was After Eight gelato. Thanks to Munna, the head waiter, there is a standing order for us to have After Eight gelato!
