Antarctica-Day 2

What a fabulous landscape

We spent the day cruising the Gerlache Strait viewing fabulous vistas of the Antarctic Peninsula. There were occasional whale sightings. The captain slowed the vessel to less than five knots. The sea was glass-like.

A whale! Mostly saw blowholes and a few tails, but exciting nevertheless.

And then the ship entered Paradise Bay. Oh my! Lots of whales, including Orca which I didn’t see but others did. The ship performed a 360 turn. Amazing!

Several whales with the rugged Antarctic coast in the background.

The temperature was chilly. Joe and I stayed inside for the most part. The public areas were full of people, so we caught a lot of the action from the stateroom.

65 degrees south latitude. Time to turn around.
A few other ships were seen. There was a Viking ship in one of the bays sending zodiacs into the frigid waters. I don’t think i would like crossing the Drake Passage in a vessel this size.

I have videos of the whale activity but the ships WiFi doesn’t seem to be able to handle the upload. I will keep trying.

Our eating was primarily grazing from the snacks and tapas in the Living Room. We didn’t want to miss the action!

BTW, the satellite television stopped working somewhere around 60 degrees south latitude. It has been refreshing to enjoy the scenery and read/listen to books.
