Montevideo, Uruguay

Joe and I have been to Montevideo before. It was 2023 and the ship went the other direction to Rio de Janeiro.

I requested proposals for wine tours from https://www.wineexplorersuy.com/. And then I began recruiting others for a boutique wine tour in both Montevideo and Punta del Este. Punta del Este filled quickly. The Montevideo tour, not so much, maybe because of cost. So a month or so ago I contacted a guide with Tours By Locals. His price was more reasonable and he promised two very small family wineries. The first stop after a short city tour was:

The vinologist is a women.
This vineyard is located in the middle of a pink granite quarry!
At the tanks we tasted the savignon Blanc still fermenting. Reminded me of Neu wine in Germany.
This is leftover inventory of the large bottles the winery used to sell to folks. It can be refilled.
The winery uses both French oak and American oak to age the wine.
Tasting!

I only took a picture of one of the wines.

I liked it!
By the way, it is harvest season. Whites first.

Second Winery

This winery makes vermouth from some of the grapes.
I enjoyed this one!
And this one.
Tannat is okay. Every winery here makes it.
Until we meet again…

Tonight is the AzAmazing evening. I have seen this one before on a prior cruise to Montevideo but it is so good!

Carnival Gala-God Momus

Amazing costuming and musicality.

Candombe performance

More wine tomorrow. A good night’s sleep is in order.
