Trondheim, Norway

Sleep on the cruise to Trondheim was elusive. The seas were rough with wind from the starboard. To make matters worse there was loud banging (sounded like metal on metal) all night long. Marianne called Guest Services. Security and Night Housekeeping came and insisted the noise was just waves hitting the ship. Having crossed the Tasman Sea and the South China Sea, Marianne and Joe begged to differ, as did our neighbors two doors away who also experienced the Tasman and South China Seas.

The city of Trondheim was founded by Viking King Olav Tryggvason in year 997 and holds a special place in Norwegian history and culture. It was the first capital of Norway and is still the city where new kings receive their ceremonial blessing.

Arrival in Trondheim was 1:30 PM. Marianne decided it would be a good time to do laundry. She was correct. All six washers were available. The hoped for excursion was full so the shuttle to town was the excursion. And what a lovely town! In July and August Trondheim hosts the St. Olaf Festivaltakes, Norway’s largest religious and cultural festival.

This street was half a block from the shuttle stop. A beer and people watching was the order of the day.
A local beer for people watching.

Back to the ship for White Night. White Night Party is unique to Azamara. Dinner is served on the Pool Deck. The ship’s band plays, then the crew, staff and officers parade onto the stage. Following that is a party late into the night lead by the Cruise Director, Assistant Cruise Director and Cast.

Joe and Marianne decided the lack of sleep the night before made attending White Night impossible. And so an early bedtime was in order just in case the banging continued as the ship traveled to Eidfjord with a Sea Day tomorrow.
