The northernmost town on the European mainland and the primary gateway to the North Cape, the chosen excursion of the day and night. The ship arrived at 2:00 PM and the planned departure was 8:00 PM.

A thirty minute bus ride produced the picture above but not much else. The landscape was desolate.

Perused the gift shop. Joe found some Viking socks he had to have. Marianne bought stamps and a few postcards, along with a souvenir pen to write the cards and mail them. A movie in the downstairs theater followed. Weird movie. A stop on one of the floors where there is a tribute to the lives lost defending the North and Berents Sea during WW 2. Then the walk to the point.

Most of the allotted time was spent, so back to the bus. The wind was so great that Joe lost his hat and sunglasses and had to retrace 50 yards or so.

Back to the ship. Dinner at Aqualina, the Italian specialty restaurant. Joe retired after dinner, Marianne attended her first evening performance. Stephen Millett is the Cruise Director. He is originally from western Pennsylvania, specifically Cranberry Twp. His undergraduate degree is from Penn State in vocal performance. He also plays soprano sax and piano in his show.
Marianne asked Stephen if his repetoire included Perry Como. He looked puzzled and she informed him Perry was from Canonsburg. Stephen didn’t realize that. So maybe I’ll get to hear a Perry Como tune before the cruise ends.
The ship had departed before the show started, on its way to cruising past North Cape. Sleep was illusive with the lack of darkness. So here are the pictures:

The two-month midnight sun period ended July 18. So time to get some sleep, even if it is still light outside.
