Svolvaer, (Lofoten), Norway
Lofoten (Low-foo-ten) is an archipelago in northern Norway above the Arctic Circle (66.5 degrees north latitude). Lots of cod fishing and cod drying. One of the northern most places where agriculture is possible. More than one million tourists per year visit. There is a competition among the local to find the tallest dandelion flower after the two months of 24 hour sun, which ended July 18. Norway has the “right to roam,” Tents can be set up almost anywhere for two nights (shout out to “The Long Way Home” on Apple TV).

Today is a golf day. The course is Lofoten Links, the #1 golf course in Norway. An early muster. Meeting time was 07:30. The weather was fabulous.

Golf carts and a forecaddie were provided. The forecaddie was Callen from Canada.
The Norwegians are very proud of Viktor Hovland. He has sparked an interest in golf in Norway.

The golf course was challenging. The vistas were incredible. The challenging golf course was mainly because outside of the first cut was a very dense ground cover. Callen was extremely good at finding golf balls in this area.

Fiskarkona, the “feskarkjærringa” (The fisherman’s wife), was made by the sculptor Per Ung (1933 – 2013) and stands at the far end of the breakwater at the entrance to Svolvær.
With her 4.5 meter height in bronze, she looks out over the Vestfjord and greets the fishermen who are out fishing. At the same time, her hand is sheltered from the weather as she scouts out to sea, worrying about whether she will get her husband home safe and sound this evening as well.
