On the Road Again…

The view from outside the VRBO in St. Andrews. We are here for a week prior to an Azamara cruise.

Getting here was a bit hectic. We had to load the car in Augusta in a driving rain storm. Of course it hadn’t rained at the airport when we arrived so Joe and I looked a bit odd, being soaked and all. The flight from Augusta was delayed by over an hour. But we made the connection to Edinburgh with 30 minutes or so to spare. The flight was uneventful but collecting baggage at the Edinburgh airport was horrible. Over an hour to have our bags delivered. Then a ten minute walk/push luggage trolleys to the rental car center. A long wait there too. Managed to get all the luggage and golf bags in the compact SUV with a standard transmission. Then I started the car and the dashboard was in German! I could have used you Barbara. Thank heavens for Google translate. I was able to take a picture of the settings and figure out which one was the language and change it. Whew!

Managed to find first gear and get going. There was an odor in the car. I thought it might be the brakes but then Joe helped me to realize it was probably the clutch. But hey I got better, even downshifting in a right hand drive car where everything is opposite of what I am used to.

Found the VRBO and Jay and Carrie in St. Andrews. Jay is here for the last week of his five-week sabbatical. We are a three minute walk from the first tee of The Old Course. This is my fourth time in this town. I love it a little more each time.

Happy hour with food at The Dunvegan

Local lager
Fish and Chips, of course

My first attempt at a tee time at The Old Course via the ballot was denied. I will try again for Thursday. Jay and I are going to see about playing Jubilee tomorrow.

What a wonderful respite from Augusta!
