Kotor, Montenegro

For years I have heard about Kotor. In Fall, 2021, the city was on the initial itinerary but COVID forced Azamara Quest to cancel the port. Anyway, the town lived up to the billing. Beginning with the approach to the town through Kotor Bay.

Our Lady of the Rocks. A tiny artificial island features a 17th-century Roman Catholic Church.

There were three of us. The plan was a walking tour of old town and then meet the guys at a local Irish Pub.

Crkva Svetog Nikole (Church of St. Nicholas).
Crkva Svetog Luke (Church of St. Luke). The floor is comprised of tombstones from communal graves of Kotor’s residents.

So the walking tour didn’t last long. Carol started walking down the small alleys similar to this. Next thing we find the guys at the pub.

The guys weren’t happy on the stools outside the Irish Pub. So a location change was in order. The Old Winery became the place to be.

Cats are a thing in Kotor. They have lived in Kotor for centuries and protect the town from rats, mice, and snakes. Nowadays the cats have become a symbol of both good luck and prosperity, and of the old town which survived despite the wars, sieges and earthquakes. But apparently they are too well fed. Bowls of food and water were noticed at street corners around the old town. This has made the kitties not need to hunt. The rats and mice may be winning. For those of you cat lovers reading this, there is a shop for you in Kotor. Check out: catsofkotor.com.

There’s nothing quite like small batch wineries. This is from the cellar of the Old Winery proprietor.

Carol found this fabulous supple leather cape. Unfortunately it was not in the budget.
The ship from the top of the city walls.

Tomorrow is Greg’s birthday. Fourteen participated in the celebration.

Greg’s drink of choice is Captain Morgan spiced rum and coke. Hence the gift of the hat from Ginette and Paul.

Next up, a sea day as the ship travels around the “boot” of Italy.
