I have been remiss but the past week has been busy. So bear with me.
Ha Long Bay was the first stop in Vietnam. This has been a World Heritage Site since 1994.
There are 1969 limestone islands dotting HaLong BayWe traveled through the bay to a remote fishing village on this boatVung Vieng Fishing Village. Formed in the early nineteenth century, at its peak in 2014, nearly 80 households lived here.We were taken to the fishing village in smaller boatsNot an easy life. The government provides a teacher so the children will be educated. There are four legged inhabitants too. I photographed this pup because it reminds me of Susie, my Mom’s dog from many years ago. There is also a pearl farm near the fishing village. No, I didn’t buy anything. My purchases had already been made in French Polynesia. On the boat we were served a nine-course lunch family-style including prawns, fish stew, squid, spring rolls, a chicken dish, fruit, Bok choy, and a couple others.
After lunch we climbed 90 of these steps to…
An incredible grotto.
Ha Long Bay is “just” another hidden gem on this wonderful adventure!
